About Us

Address:
200 Main Street, Munfordville, KY 42765

The event, which was established in 2014 by James and Sherry Lawrence, is held in memory of James’ dad, Kenneth Lawrence. It serves as a way to shine a light on suicide awareness, mental health, and the struggles that many people silently deal with a daily basis. The poker run also serves as a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

On June 8th, 2024 over 250 motorcycles will occupy the streets of Munfordville, Kentucky specifically around the courthouse square. All bikes are welcome to join the ride for a nominal participation fee of $20 per rider and $15 per passenger. Your participation fee includes a delicious BBQ plate and the opportunity to win prizes while doing so for a great cause. There is a 50/50 raffle, trophies, prizes, cornhole and music. Bring the kids for the games and the bouncy houses and enjoy the true spirit of Run For The Light.

“All of the proceeds go to AFSP to provide research for suicide prevention, create education programs and distribution (including in schools), support for those in mental health crisis and survivors of suicide loss, as well as advocacy in both state and federal legislation to create change for mental health,” said Sherry Lawrence.

Riders come from all over the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Missouri. This poker run is truly a reflection of the generosity that bikers have for the events cause and the goal is to involve as many people as possible. Your support for the Run For The Light Poker Run is welcome whether you ride a motorcycle or not.

“Without everyone, we could not have made this event last this long or raised the funds over the years to help others,” Sherry said. “..We just want to thank everyone that participates in any way possible as we would never be able to have this event if it wasn’t for them. When you have someone come up to you and say that they are a survivor, that makes everything you did worth it. What may seem small to someone is a big impact for others. If you see someone struggling, offer them help.”

If you are in crisis, reach out for help. Call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting 741741 for help.

We hope to see you and your friends on June 8th, 2024 in Munfordville.
